Assistant Legal Officer, Social Security 2021-22

Assistant Legal Officer, Employment and Self-referral Coordinator 2021-22

FRU provides representation in social entitlement and employment tribunals for people who can’t afford lawyers. We represent approximately 500 clients annually in tribunals across London and the South East.

Most of our work is done by approximately 300 volunteers, generally law students on the Bar Professional Training Course or the Legal Practice Course. They are supervised by our legal officers.  More information about FRU can be found at   Each year we recruit two new Assistant Legal Officers to help us support our volunteers. Successful candidates will also be expected to appear regularly in the tribunals, including the Upper Tribunal and the Employment Appeal Tribunal. Candidates must have experience of advocacy in either employment or social entitlement tribunals.

These are training and development posts, intended to give lawyers the opportunity to gain experience and develop their skills early in their career. The roles are ideal for those hoping to go on to a pupillage or training contract. They are offered as fixed-term posts for the period 1 September 2021 (or as soon as possible thereafter) to 31 August 2022.  Salary: £29,137 per year.

Interviews will be held on Monday 23rd August / Tuesday 24th August 2021.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon 9th August 2021.
