  • FRU launches '£50k for 50 years' appeal

    The Free Representation Unit is celebrating our 50th anniversary this year. We've launched a new a new fund to enable people to celebrate with us by supporting our future service. Money raised from the '£50,000 for 50 years' fund will be used to pay for our team of legal officers who supervise legal cases.

    FRU Chief Executive David Abbott said " Over the last 50 years we have helped tens of thousands of people to get access to justice, and we've trained several generations of lawyers. We need to secure our service for the next 50 years and raising £50,000 would be a big help to us. It would be fantastic if people donated to the fund or organised fundraising events to push the fund towards its target."

  • Donate to FRU's 50th Birthday Events

    This year is FRU's 50th Birthday and we are taking part in a number of events.

    Ride London is our second event of the year and takes place on Sunday 28th May.  We have one rider, Jose Almeida, who has had five weeks’ notice to train and is riding his single speed bike for 100 miles in support of FRU. His rider number is 112656 (name Jose Alme), follow his progress on the day!

  • FRU's 50th Birthday Events

    On Bank Holiday Monday Jessica Brittain will be running the Vitality 10K.  We are taking part in a number of fundraising events to mark FRU's 50th Birthday this year and this is the first of those events.  We wish Jess the best of luck on Monday.  Good Luck!

  • Recruitment of a new Principal Legal Officer - Employment

    Applications have opened for the position of Principal Legal Officer for our employment work. Further details can be found on our recruitment page.

    We have the difficult task of finding a replacement for Michael Reed, our longstanding PLO who is leaving us to expand his judicial work. The person appointed will lead our employment work by training and supervising volunteers and Assistant Legal Officers as they conduct cases. The PLO will be a member of our senior team, helping to manage developments across our service.
