We were delighted to have been chosen as the charity partner for The Lawyer Awards 2022. The Lawyer is a legal magazine and website that mainly covers commercial law in the UK. Each year The Lawyer runs an awards programme that culminates in a prestigious ceremony in a top London hotel. The awards celebrate and recognise legal excellence in law firms and chambers.

The awards ceremony was held on 12 July and hosted by comedian Jason Manford. Over 1200 attendees from the shortlisted legal teams and individual nominees heard about FRU's work in a presentation by Jason Manford. FRU was also the beneficiary of a silent auction to win 70 amazing lots. FRU Chief Executive David Abbott was also invited to present the award for pro bono initiative of the year.

FRU CEO David Abbott said " this is the third year that we have been in partnership with The Lawyer magazine. We are immensely grateful to Dr Catrin Griffiths and the whole team at The Lawyer for working with us, raising funds and giving our work amazing exposure to the commercial legal sector. The Free Representation Unit is celebrating our 50th anniversary this year. We've launched a new a new fund to enable people to celebrate with us by supporting our future service. Money raised from the '£50,000 for 50 years' fund will be used to pay for our team of legal officers who supervise legal cases.

FRU Chief Executive David Abbott said " Over the last 50 years we have helped tens of thousands of people to get access to justice, and we've trained several generations of lawyers. We need to secure our service for the next 50 years and raising £50,000 would be a big help to us. It would be fantastic if people donated to the fund or organised fundraising events to push the fund towards its target."
